This will be short, but I really wanted to share our day at the fair. Our county fair has always been one of the great highlights of our year. When the kids were in school, they were also in 4-H, therefore showed animals and participated in the Non-Livestock show as well. All three showed broilers; the girls (mostly Dannye) showed rabbits; both girls did baked goods, and Nathanael entered the fine arts competition. We were fairly successful at the fair, all three together having won several thousand dollars throughout the years.
Now they are grown, so we are no longer participating in the youth show. But, Dan and Bill have really enjoyed the Non-Professional Adult Shows with their photography. Again, through the years they have been fairly successful. This year was our best yet. Both Bill and Dannye received several blue ribbons, judged for the quality of the photograph (you know, technical stuff like focus, exposure, composition…). Blue ribbon entries are then judged against each other. Many of their pictures one of us has already posted on xanga during the past year. I’m just going to re-post their winning photos:
This is Dannye’s Go Texan entry. She won 4th place with it. I really liked this one, and Go Texan is a difficult category since it can be ANYTHING some might THINK could be Texan. The second place winner, for instance, was a row of about 5 dogs with different colored bandanas (no Texas flag or bluebonnets, just colorful) around their necks. I would have never thought of that as Go Texan, but someone obviously did.
This, of course, is Bill’s landscape entry. He was awarded 2nd place for this one. It is truly one of the most beautiful sunrises he has taken. You really have to look at the print to see whether you are holding it right side up or not. Just gorgeous!
This is a first for us… Bill received Best of Division for this wonderful shot of our dear friends 2 youngest sons. It was perfect priinted up, and we were so excited that Bill was rewarded for his efforts! You probably can’t read the back of Bryce’s shirt, but it says “Brother Bear”. Ethan’s football team mascot is the Bears. The coach of the Bears is putting a 12 x 18 print of this picture up in the locker room with the caption, “Be a role model, be a Bear”. Cool stuff!
Better get to work. Have a blessed day!
