We’re Home!

I will give You thanks with all my heart;
         I will sing praises to You before the gods.

I will bow down toward Your holy temple
         And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
         For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name.

         You made me bold with strength in my soul.

         Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting;
         Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

I’m overwhelmed with gratefulness to our Lord tonight!  Daddy is home from the hospital; not only home, but here with a good report! 

We were actually supposed to come home on Saturday, but somehow the physical therapy Dr. S had ordered never showed up Friday.  The point of the physical therapy was to observe Daddy’s heart rate during and after exersion.  Since that didn’t happen on Friday, Dr. S said we had to stay so he could be observed Saturday through at least one PT session.

Daddy had been getting better each day.  Well, physically better.  His memory became terribly clouded, but he was aware it was happening.  He asked several times each day and night where we were, sometimes asking the literal question, sometimes asking, “Are we in the hospital?”  He also began to get more and more depressed.  He simply forgot that he was doing physically well, so he would say things to indicate he thought he was failing rapidly, or perhaps would not get to leave the hospital.  We had to continually remind him of how well he was doing.  I do think he began to accept our words, although I’m not certain he really believed them!

Saturday, a physical therapist came in and took Daddy for a walk down the hall.  Oh, how he didn’t want to go, but he did it fairly willingly.  He actually took 3 passes down the hallway!  That is truly amazing, given that he often doesn’t make it all from his chair to the bathroom at home!  After he came back to the room, he sat up in the recliner for quite awhile.  The cardiologist covering for Dr. P came in shortly after Dad got back from his walk, and checked him out.  He was truly impressed!  Dad’s heart rate did just fine through the exercise, and the Dr. said it sounded VERY good for only having 30% functionality of his heart!  Daddy was also not gasping for air, nor panicking in his breathing. 

I can’t even begin to tell you how encouraged Jeanne and I were!  Now, as I said before, it may take us awhile to convince Daddy that he is doing well, but we are commited to doing just that!

Lest anyone get concerned, I am very aware that my Daddy is 90+ years old, and not in good health.  What my thankfulness is stemming from is that FOR HIS CONDITION, Daddy is doing very well.  God is so very gracious to allow us a bit more time with this precious man!

I don’t remember if I shared that I was able to attend our Valentine’s Banquet with my sweet hubby.  Jeanne stayed with Daddy for the evening, and Bill and I, along with Dannye Reigh acting as event photographer, had a lovely time with precious church friends.  What a fun time we had!  Because I’m just not certain how everyone feels about their images being splashed across the internet, I am only publishing photos of Bill and I, and the young people whom I’m pretty sure won’t mind.

Same group, but with my Dannye Reigh joining them.  We truly have precious, loving group of young adults in our church family.  The beautiful lady in the center of the group was the director of the banquet – just a precious, godly lady who truly helped make our evening lovely!

Well, that’s all for tonight!  I’m off to get Daddy tucked into bed, and then head that way myself.
